WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 24th April, 2019) The United States will continue talks with Russia to come closer on the issue of denuclearizing the Korean peninsula, a Department of State spokesperson told Sputnik ahead of a meeting between the Russian and North Korean leaders.
Earlier in the day, the Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will meet on April 25 in the eastern Russian city of Vladivostok.
"We are aware of reports. The United States and the international community is committed to the same goal - the final, fully verified denuclearization of North Korea," the spokesperson said Tuesday.
"Deputy Foreign Minister Morgulov and Special Representative Biegun will continue their dialogue to bridge any gaps on the way forward."
Russia sees that North Korea and the United States are ready to continue dialogue although the latest US-North Korean summit did not bring tangible results, Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov said on Tuesday.
Morgulov and Biegun met in Moscow last week to discuss the denuclearization of North Korea. The US Embassy in Moscow called the talks constructive, and said the two officials discussed bilateral engagements with North Korea.
