WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 14th November, 2018) The US Department of Justice must respond to a backlog of requests from Democratic lawmakers before they become the majority when the new US Congress is sworn in this January, House of Representatives Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerry Nadler said in a letter to acting US Attorney General Matthew Whitaker and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
"As you are no doubt aware, Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee have written over one hundred letters to the Trump administration, including the Department of Justice and the FBI, concerning legitimate oversight matters that fall within our jurisdiction," Nadler wrote on Tuesday. "Between now and the end of the 115th Congress, I ask that you work with me and other members of the Committee to address this backlog.
"
Nadler said he is growing more concerned about President Donald Trump's attacks on the integrity of the Justice Department, which includes firing US Attorney General Jeff Sessions, as well as personal attacks against other senior members of the Justice Department.
Democrats on the Judiciary Committee want responses to letters sent for oversight purposes to the Justice Department on numerous topics, including the request for a briefing from the FBI before the release of the so-called Nunes memo, request for a criminal investigation into the alleged outing of an undercover asset who helped collect information for the FBI in the Russia probe, and Sessions' recusal from the Russia probe, among other issues.
