US-Led Coalition Conducts 168 Strikes Against Islamic State in Syria - Joint Task Force

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st November, 2018) The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State (IS, outlawed in Russia) terrorist group in Iraq and Syria carried out 168 strikes last week, Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Between Nov. 11 and Nov. 17, CJTF-OIR conducted 168 strikes consisting of 297 engagements in Syria," the release said.

All strikes were conducted near Syria's Hajin, destroying multiple buildings, supply routes, staging areas, fighting positions, tunnels as well as command and control centers, the release explained.

"This coalition strike release contains all strikes conducted by fighter, attack, bomber, rotary-wing, or remotely piloted aircraft, rocket propelled artillery and ground-based tactical artillery," the release also said.

The US-led coalition of more than 70 countries is conducting military operations against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. The coalition's operations in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or the UN Security Council.
