US-Led Coalition Forces Conduct 208 Strikes Against IS in Syria - Joint Task Force

The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State (IS, outlawed in Russia) terrorist group in Iraq and Syria carried out 208 strikes December 9-15, mainly near the eastern Syrian city of Hajin, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a press release on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th December, 2018) The US-led coalition fighting the Islamic State (IS, outlawed in Russia) terrorist group in Iraq and Syria carried out 208 strikes December 9-15, mainly near the eastern Syrian city of Hajin, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in a press release on Wednesday.

"Between Dec. 9 and Dec. 15, CJTF-OIR conducted 208 strikes consisting of 378 engagements in Syria," the release said.

All but one of the strikes hit targets near Syria's Hajin, with the exception of a single strike near the eastern border city of Al Bukamal, the coalition said.

The strikes near Hajin engaged tactical units and destroyed fighting positions, staging areas, tunnels and supply routes, among other targets, the release added.

The coalition said it also detected 112 strikes during that time period from "other actors that crossed the Eurphrates River Valley," and called on all other combatants in the area to observe the same precautions the coalition does in order to minimize civilian casualties.

The US-led coalition of more than 70 countries is conducting military operations against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. The coalition's operations in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or the UN Security Council.
