US New Bill on Russia's Influence in Venezuela Contradicts International Law - Lawmaker

A US bill on counteracting Russia's presence in Venezuela contradicts the very essence of international law, the chairman of the Russian Federation Council's committee on constitutional legislation, Andrei Klishas, told Sputnik Tuesday

MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 26th March, 2019) A US bill on counteracting Russia's presence in Venezuela contradicts the very essence of international law, the chairman of the Russian Federation Council's committee on constitutional legislation, Andrei Klishas, told Sputnik Tuesday.

On Monday, the US House of Representatives passed a bill requiring US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to assess Russia-Venezuela cooperation and Moscow's military presence in the Latin American country.

"The principle of states cooperating with each other is one of the key principles of international law. Meanwhile, such acts of pressure, passed under the pretext of fighting ephemeral threats, contradicts the essence of international law as such," the lawmaker said.
