US Picks Florida Airport For Test Of Latest Drone Detection Systems - Transport Dept.

Miami International Airport (MIA) in the US state of Florida will conduct an initial test of technologies that will detect, track, and identify drones entering into restricted airspace, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said on Thursday
WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2021) Miami International Airport (MIA) in the US state of Florida will conduct an initial test of technologies that will detect, track, and identify drones entering into restricted airspace, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said on Thursday.
"The technologies will be evaluated in laboratory and operational field environments. During the test at MIA, TSA will review a range of security and surveillance technologies that are able to detect, track and identify UAS [drone] operations by radar, thermal imaging, and artificial intelligence," a TSA said in a press release.
TSA said the threat from drones pose a threat to commercial aviation when flown into certain restricted airspaces, adding that in recent years it has increased exponentially.
The information and data collected from the test will help develop solutions that mitigate the risks that unauthorized drone operations to the US transportation system, according to the release.
