MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th March, 2019) US Republican Congressman Devin Nunes, former chair and current member of the House Intelligence Committee, filed a $250 million lawsuit against Twitter, accusing it of "shadow-banning conservatives" in order to influence the 2018 elections to the US Congress, and of ignoring his complaints of offensive content targeting him.
Nunes also accused several Twitter users communications consultant Liz Mair and anonymous accounts, including those with nicknames "Devin Nunes' Mom" and "Devin Nunes' Cow" of orchestrating a "defamation campaign of stunning breadth and scope, one that no human being should ever have to bear and suffer in their whole life" against him.
"In 2018, Twitter shadow-banned Plaintiff in order to restrict his free speech and to amplify the abusive and hateful content published and republished by Mair, Devin Nunes' Mom, Devin Nunes' cow, Fire Devin Nunes, Devin Nunes Grapes, and others.
The shadow-banning was intentional. It was calculated to interfere with and influence the Federal election and interfere with Nunes' ongoing investigation as a member of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence," the complaint, which Nunes filed to a court in the US state of Virginia on Monday, read.
Nunes also called on Twitter to display the Names of the people behind the anonymous accounts spreading fake information targeting him.
Apart from the $250 million in compensatory damages, Nunes requested Twitter to pay him $350,000 in punitive damages.
