US Secretary Pompeo, Qatar Deputy Prime Minister Discuss Regional Conflicts - State Dept.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 25th April, 2019) A meeting between US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his Qatari Counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani explored strategies to cope with multiple conflicts in the middle East, the Department of State said in a readout of the meeting.

"The Secretary and the foreign minister discussed a range of regional issues, covering Afghanistan, Libya, Sudan, and efforts to counter the Iranian regime's malign influence," the readout said on Wednesday.

Al Thani holds dual positions as his nation's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.

The readout made no mention of the hus far unsuccessful US efforts to end an economic and diplomatic blockade of Qatar imposed by Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations last June over accusations that Qatar supports terrorist groups.
