The US Senate Armed Services Committee has approved $300 million in security aid for Ukraine, an increase of $50 million for lethal aid over the sum requested by US President Donald Trump, according to the committee's markup of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2020 released on Thursday
"Authorizes up to $300 million for security assistance to Ukraine, of which $100 million is available only for lethal assistance, and adds coastal defense and anti-ship missiles as eligible categories of security assistance," the document said.
In March, the US Department of Defense said that Trump requested a budget of $250 million for the Defense Department to support Ukraine's military and security forces.
The House of Representatives Appropriations Committee on Tuesday authorized $250 million in security aid for Ukraine, including $50 million for lethal military assistance, while prohibiting US funding for Ukrainian ultra-nationalist paramilitary groups.
