WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th November, 2018) An attempt to focus opposition to US involvement in Yemen's war faltered on Thursday when the US Senate rejected an attempt by Senator Rand Paul to halt a proposed $300Mln arms sale to Bahrain in a 77-21 vote.
"I'm only saying stop one sale of arms to send a message that we are done with the war in Yemen...
That we are no longer going to sell weapons to countries that are fighting this war in Yemen," Paul said in a speech on the Senate floor prior to the vote.
Bahrain is a participant in the Saudi-led military coalition that operates in support of Yemen's internationally recognized government and against the Houthi rebels in the country.
Opposition to continued arms sales for Yemen's war stems from concerns about the civilian death toll, as well as anger over Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's murder in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
