US Senator Urges Federal Gun Control After 4 Killed In Latest Mass Shooting In Maryland

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 21st September, 2018) Congress and government must close loopholes on background checks before gun sales, US Senator Ben Cardin said in a statement after a woman killed three others and then herself in Aberdeen, Maryland.
"[W]e can reduce gun violence with commonsense measures already introduced in Congress," Cardin, Democrat from Maryland, said on Thursday. "There is no rational reason we should not close the loophole that allows some gun purchases to occur without a background check or reinstate the assault weapons ban."
Authorities identified the shooter as Snochia Moseley, 26, of Baltimore County, a temporary employee at a Rite Aid pharmacy distribution center.
Maryland authorities said Moseley opened fire around 9:00 a.m. with a 9 mm Glock pistol registered in her name.
"Horrific... It is both frustrating and appalling that we are in this situation yet again, while the Republican leadership in Congress continues to block movement on a multitude of legislative measures that could save lives," Cardin said.
Moseley shot herself in the head after the killings and later died, authorities said. Her motive is not yet known, according to media reports.
