WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th September, 2018) Six Senate Democrats have filed a lawsuit against the National Archives and Central Intelligence Agency in a bid to force the release of documents related to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's time at the White House, Senator Richard Blumenthal's office announced in a press release on Monday.
"Today, US Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) led US Senators Cory A. Booker (D-NJ), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), and Kamala Harris (D-CA) in filing a lawsuit to compel the National Archives and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to release all records involving Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh during his time as an associate in the White House Counsel's office and as White House Staff Secretary," the release said.
Neither the CIA nor the National Archives have released the records, though nearly a month has passed since the Democrats filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for their release, Blumenthal's office said.
Democrats on the Judiciary Committee complained during Kavanaugh's confirmation hearings that they did not receive 93 percent of the records from when Kavanaugh served in the White House under former President George W. Bush.
A vote on whether to send Kavanaugh's nomination to the full US Senate is scheduled for Thursday.
US President Donald Trump announced the nomination of Kavanaugh on July 9 to replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, who stepped down from the high court.
