US, S.Korea Officials to Discuss Denuclearization on November 20 - State Department

High-ranking government officials from the United States and South Korea will meet this week to discuss ongoing efforts to achieve complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, the US Department of State said in a news release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 19th November, 2018) High-ranking government officials from the United States and South Korea will meet this week to discuss ongoing efforts to achieve complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, the US Department of State said in a news release on Monday.

"US Special Representative for North Korea Stephen Biegun will meet with Republic of Korea Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Lee Do-hoon in Washington on Tuesday, November 20 to further strengthen our close coordination on efforts to achieve our shared goal of final, fully verified denuclearization," the release said.

Biegun and Lee will also discuss sustained implementation of United Nations-imposed sanctions on North Korea and inter-Korean cooperation, the release added.

The State Department said last week that North Korea continues to engage in illegal activities in order to evade sanctions imposed by the United Nations as well as those imposed by the United States.

The State Department added that all the sanctions against North Korea will remain in place until a fully verified denuclearization of the Korean peninsula is achieved.
