US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad arrived in Kabul to update Afghan leaders on his recent efforts to negotiate peace in the region, the Embassy of the United States in Afghanistan said in a news release on Wednesday.
"Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad arrived in Kabul today to update President [Ashraf] Ghani and [Chief Executive Abdullah] Abdullah on his engagements with regional partners and other interested parties to reach a negotiated settlement to the conflict in Afghanistan," the release said.
Khalilzad spent the last three-days in Abu Dhabi, where he attended the fourth round of quadrilateral meetings between the United States, Afghanistan, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. The talks were part of an ongoing effort by the United States and other international partners to promote dialogue and end the conflict in Afghanistan.
