YEREVAN (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent has told Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that the United States was ready to help the Armenian government with the implementation of reforms in the country, the press service of the Armenian government said on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Kent met with the Armenian prime minister in Yerevan.
"Kent said that the US government was interested in [seeing] Armenia succeed in developing democracy and [achieving] economic progress, and was ready to assist the Armenian government in implementing reforms," the press service said in a statement obtained by Sputnik.
In April, a political crisis and anti-government protests broke out in Armenia after Serzh Sargsyan, who had served as the country's president for 10 years, was appointed as the prime minister, which was regarded by people as his attempt to stay in power. Sargsyan was forced to resign and Pashinyan became the country's prime minister instead, pledging to implement a number of economic and political reforms.
