US To Continue Using Deconfliction Channel With Russia On Syria - State Department

The United States will continue to promote the use of the deconfliction channel with Russia on Syria, a senior Department of State official said on Friday

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 10th May, 2019) The United States will continue to promote the use of the deconfliction channel with Russia on Syria, a senior Department of State official said on Friday.

"On Syria, we have a very productive deconfliction channel and we will continue that type of conversation," the official said.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will reiterate to the Russian leadership during his trip to Moscow and Sochi next week the United States' concern about Russia's role in Syria, the official said.

Pompeo will also discuss other matters concerning the middle East, such as Iran and the Afghan peace process, the official added.

Russia and Turkey, alongside Iran, are guarantors of the ceasefire in Syria. Russia has also been assisting the Syrian government in its fight against terrorist groups and by providing humanitarian aid.
