US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement on Thursday that the United States will continue to gather evidence in the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi and work with other countries to hold to account all those involved in the murder.
Earlier in the day, Washington imposed sanctions on 17 Saudi nationals for human rights abuse related to their roles in the murder of the Washington Post columnist at the Saudi Arabian Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2.
"The State Department will continue to seek all relevant facts, consult Congress, and work with other nations to hold accountable those involved in the killing of Jamal Khashoggi," the statement said.
The US sanctions, imposed under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, blocked the assets of the 17 individuals within the United States, as well as prohibited US citizens from engaging in transactions with them.
