US Transparent With Russia, China About Missile Defense Posture - Senior Official

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 17th January, 2019) The United States is transparent with China and Russia regarding developing its new missile defense capabilities, a senior administration official said ahead of unveiling the latest US missile defense review.�

"The United States has been very transparent about the development of its missile defense capabilities," the official told reporters on Wednesday.

"We are transparent with both Russia and China about our missile defense posture."

When asked how Washington will reassure Moscow and Beijing that possible US expansion of capabilities would not be offensive, the official said, "With respect to relations with Russia and China, the President relies on having good relations with leaders of those countries."

"Our defense capabilities are defensive," the official added.

On Thursday, the United States will release its 2019 Missile Defense Review, which will be the first one since 2010.
