Venezuela's Guaido Says Trying To Establish Diplomatic Relations With Russia, China

Venezuelan opposition parliament speaker Juan Guaido, who has declared himself interim president, is trying to establish diplomatic relations with Russia and China, according to his interview with The Financial Times published Saturday
"We're trying to establish formal relations with all countries, including of course with Russia and China, two of the countries with the biggest investments in Venezuela," Guaido told The Financial Times.
He did not elaborate on how exactly his team was negotiating with Moscow and Beijing, but added that the opposition was "in the process" of establishing relations.
Tensions in Venezuela escalated over two weeks ago when Guaido declared himself interim president, disputing last year's re-election of incumbent leader Nicolas Maduro. Guaido was almost immediately recognized by the United States and a number of other countries. Russia, China, Mexico, Turkey and Uruguay were among those that have voiced their support for Maduro as the country's legitimately elected president.
