PRAGUE (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 18th January, 2019) Vice-President of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic officially announced on Friday that he had accepted the proposal of the ruling party Direction - Social Democracy to run in the Slovak presidential election the first round of which will be held on March 16.

"I have been defending the interests of Slovakia for several decades. I view the presidency as a service to fellow citizens in this difficult period. The country needs a non-partisan president who would promote social understanding," Sefcovic said at a press conference.
