Washington Gathers to Pay Tribute to Former President George H.W. Bush

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 06th December, 2018) Presidents, dignitaries and current and former government officials gathered at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC on Wedneday for a state funeral honoring the 41st president, George H.W. Bush.

President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania attended the funeral, along with all the other living presidents and their wives, including George W. and Laura Bush, Barack and Michelle Obama, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter.

Former President George W. Bush delivered the eulogy for his father near the end of the service.

"And we're going to miss you.

Your decency, sincerity, and kind soul will stay with us forever. So, through our tears, let us see the blessings of knowing and loving you - a great and noble man, and the best father a son or daughter could have," Bush said.

The remains of the former president will lie in repose at a church in his native Houston, Texas before a private service and burial Thursday on the ground of his presidential library in College Station, Texas.

George H.W. Bush served as the 41st president of the United States from 1989 to 1993.

He died in Houston, Texas, on Friday at the age of 94.
