Whitaker Told US Lawmakers Muller Handles Russia Probe Correctly - Graham

WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 16th November, 2018) Acting US Attorney General Matthew Whitaker told a group of members of Congress in a closed-door meeting that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has been conducting the Russia investigation correctly, Senator Lindsay Graham said.
"I don't think he's [Whitaker] going to do anything unsavory," Graham told reporters on Thursday as quoted by CNBC.
Graham pointed out that Whitaker is not considering recusing himself from the Russia investigation because there is no need for such action, despite the fact that Democrats in Congress argue he should.
US Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned last week at the request of president Donald Trump.
Trump said in a statement that Whitaker would fill the role of acting US Attorney General until a permanent replacement is found.
While several lawmakers said the move requires Senate approval, the Justice Department Office of Legal Counsel issued an opinion saying the naming of Whitaker is constitutional and does not require Senate confirmation.
Graham in an interview to CBS over the weekend defended the naming of Whitaker to the position acting US Attorney General and called it "absolutely legal."
