Yanukovych Congratulates Zelenskiy On Winning Ukrainian Presidential Election

Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated Volodymyr Zelenskiy on winning the Ukrainian presidential race, Yanukovych's spokesman Yuriy Kirasir said on Monday
KIEV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd April, 2019) Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has congratulated Volodymyr Zelenskiy on winning the Ukrainian presidential race, Yanukovych's spokesman Yuriy Kirasir said on Monday.
The runoff between Zelenskiy and incumbent Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko was held on Sunday. According to the country's Central Election Commission, Zelenskiy is leading with 73.18 percent of the vote after 90.25 percent of ballots were counted. Poroshenko, who secured 24.49 percent of the vote, has already admitted his defeat.
"I sincerely congratulate you on your election as the president of Ukraine.
Ukrainians have entrusted you to this post at the one of the most difficult moments of history of our country. Peaceful Ukrainian people has been split and radicalized more than ever before," the greeting telegram published by Kirasir on Facebook said.
Yanukovych also accused Poroshenko of Ukraine's "terrible suffering."
The former leader of Ukraine urged Zelenskiy to bring peace to Ukraine, unite the people of Ukraine, restore legality and justice and raise the level of Ukrainians' welfare.
