Yellow Vest Protesters Gear Up For New Paris Rallies After Notre Dame Fire - Activist

There have been no plans to cancel the 23rd weekend of yellow vest protests in Paris after a fire devastated the landmark Notre Dame cathedral, the movement's activist told Sputnik on Wednesday
The nation was left in shock after a fire ripped through the 850-year-old Gothic cathedral this Monday, days before Easter, destroying much of its roof and causing the iconic spire to collapse.
"Yes, the protest action in Paris will go ahead. We will continue," the activist said.
He stressed that yellow vest demonstrators were shaken by the tragedy but noted that "it never was our aim to damage or destroy the city ... Many blame us for not standing up to hooligans, but it's not our job."
Thousands of Parisians gathered outside the fire-ravaged cathedral on Tuesday night to say prayers and show solidarity. President Emmanuel Macron promised in an address to the nation to rebuild it within five years. Pledges of donations have been pouring in from governments and businesses alike.
