Zakharova Calls UK Ambassador's Interview Containing Accusations Against Russia 'Shocking'
UK Ambassador to Russia Laurie Bristow's recent interview, where he voices a number of accusations against Russia, is shocking and "suicidal," Russian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday
The Kommersant newspaper published an interview with Bristow on Tuesday where he accused Russia of aggression against Georgia and Ukraine, committing cyberattacks and supporting alleged chemical attacks committed by Syrian governmental troops.
"This is a somehow suicidal interview by the UK ambassador. He did many strange things, but even I could not have not expected such absurdity ...
We had to study this interview. Its oddity, categoricalness and aggressiveness are shocking. He mentioned all the cliches, accusations and stupidity that are traditionally voiced by members of [Prime Minister Theresa] May's government," Zakharova said at a press briefing.
She pointed out that this interview was one more sign of London's choice to maintain tensions in bilateral relations.
