Zakharova Says US, EU Failed To Present Any Proof Of Alleged Russian Media Propaganda

The United States and the European Union have not yet provided Moscow with any evidence of Russian media's alleged propaganda activities, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday
"Do you know how many direct requests, notes and proposals we sent to our colleagues in the United States and in the countries of the European Union? The Foreign Ministry, ambassadors and representatives. We did this hundreds of times, but received zero [response]. They just accuse [Russia] with zero evidence or supporting materials [of alleged Russian media propaganda]," Zakharova said in a speech aired by the Ruptly video news agency.
The spokeswoman was commenting on the recent recommendation adopted by the European Parliament regarding the propaganda activities of "third parties.
" The text specifically insists that the main aim is to raise awareness about "Russia's disinformation campaigns, as this constitutes the main source of disinformation in Europe."
The recommendation is a follow-up to the major report released by the European Parliament in 2016 that called on the European Union to recognize and expose "Russian disinformation and propaganda warfare."
A wave of anti-Russian hysteria has permeated the West since 2016. Back then, Moscow was accused by the United States of meddling in its presidential election. Europe later followed suit, claiming that Russia had attempted to interfere in the 2016 Brexit referendum as well as the Catalan independence vote in 2017. The accusers have not backed their claims by any substantial proof.
