MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd April, 2019) Ukrainian presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who is leading in the Sunday's runoff with 73.35 percent of the vote after 20.91 percent of the ballots were counted, will have a "very strong mandate" to fight corruption and oligarchy in the country, European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said on Monday.
"I congratulate the #Ukrainian people on their show of democratic maturity and the President elect, Volodymyr #Zelensky, on his victory.
This result is a very strong mandate to fight corruption more vigourosly and to free the state from oligarchic state capture," Hahn wrote on Twitter.
He also pledged to support Ukraine's aspiration to join the European Union.
"The #reform process and the implementation of the #AssociationAgreement must continue at full speed in order for the #Ukrainian people to fully benefit from it. In the final months of my mandate I will do all I can to support #Ukraine on this path," Hahn, whose mandate expires in late October, added.
