Zelenskiy's Team Hopes Transition Of Power To Be Held Peacefully - Representative

KIEV (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - 22nd April, 2019) The campaign team of Ukrainian presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who is leading in the Sunday's runoff with incumbent President Petro Poroshenko, hopes that transition of power will be conducted peacefully, a representative of the campaign team, Dmitry Razumkov, said on Monday.

Zelenskiy is leading in the runoff with 73 percent of the vote, after 70.33 percent of ballots were counted.

"I hope that the transition of power, which the yet acting president of Ukraine [Poroshenko] mentioned today, will be really conducted like it has been promised, without any irregularities," Razumkov said, as quoted by the UNIAN news agency.

Poroshenko said on Sunday, when exit polls results were already showing that Zelenskiy was poised to win the race, that he accepted the decision of the Ukrainian people. He also expressed readiness to "lend a shoulder" to the new president of the country in all his decisions that would meet the national interests of the country and bring it closer to the membership in the European Union and NATO.

The final official result of the runoff is expected to be announced around April 30.
