Surah Yunus Benefits

Surah Yunus is the 10th Surah of the Holy Quran. It contains 109 verses. The Surah Yunus comprises 1839 words, of which 888 words are unique words (that does not follow repetition). This Surah was revealed in Makkah. 

Name of the Surah

The name of the Surah is after the name of Prophet Yunus. Prophet Yunus’s name is mentioned in verse number 98 of the surah. 

Summary of Surah Yunus

The verse wise summary of surah Yunus is as follows:

  • In the first two verses of the surah, Allah addresses the issue when the Quresh e Makkah said that the Muhammad (SAW) is a magical person. He (SAW) is doing magic and gathering young people among His side. 
  • In the third verse, Allah said that the creator and ruler of the universe is Allah Almighty. 
  • In the fourth verse, Allah promises to those who believe in Him and do good deeds. Allah will give them a good reward after death.
  • In the 5th and 6th verses, Allah said that those who want to follow the right path can see the signs in my ruling universe.

  • In the 7th to 11th verses, Allah explains the rewards for those who believe in Him and follow the right path. Allah also explains the punishment for those who deny His orders and did not follow the right path. 
  • In 12 to 15 verses, Allah said that man returns to Allah in his bad days, but later on, he forgets Allah Almighty. In these verses, Allah also warns the Quresh e Makkah. He warns them by giving the example of past generations. The past generations did not obey the orders of their Prophets, and then Allah ruined them badly.
  • In 16 to 18 verses, Allah addresses the behavior of Quresh e Makkah about the Holy Quran. Quresh e Makkah said that the Holy Prophet (SAW) wrote these verses by Himself. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) challenged them that they may write one verse like this if they have the power. The Quresh E Makkah failed in that challenge. 
  • In 19 to 24 verses, it is explained that people call Allah for help in Hard times but forget Allah and his orders in the comfort period. Allah Almighty said that people believe in idols, but they can neither benefit them nor harm them.
  • In verse number 25, Allah explains the process that how he sends rain to the earth, and in that rains vegetables grow. Man uses those vegetables to fulfill their hunger. 
  • Verses 26 to 28, Allah promise that he will give heaven to those who do good deeds and hell to those who do bad deeds and deny His orders.
  • In verses 29 and 30, Allah said that everybody who is sent to the earth would be back to Allah, as Allah is the master and true creator of the universe.
  • In verses 31 and 32, Allah said that he is the master of your eyes and ears. Allah took the living from the dead. Allah sends his signs to the earth than why do you not have fear from Him.
  • In verses 32 to 36, Allah addresses the nonbelievers that they did not believe in the oneness of Allah and believe in their idols. They deny the orders of Allah, but Allah knows their all deeds and their inner feelings.
  • In verses 37 to 39, Allah said that they could not bring a book like Quran. If they can not do that, they should accept the Quran and admire the oneness of Allah. They did not know the result of the past generations. 
  • In verses 40 and 41, Allah said that some people believe in Allah and some reject his orders. Allah knows all of them very closely.
  • In verses 42 to 47, Allah declared the non-believers as they are persons without moral values. They are of no further use. 
  • In verses 48 to 50, Allah explains that he sends prophets to all the nations on the earth. Each prophet has a different era and different areas of the earth. Few persons obey the orders of their prophets while others deny them.
  • In verses 51 to 60, Allah said that the nations who obey the orders of their Prophets would get the rewards. Those who did not obey will get the punishment. Allah has the life and death of each person in His hand. The Holy Book Quran is sent to show the right path to the believers. 
  • In verses 61 to 70, Allah said that the divine powers can not control the Holy Prophet. The nonbelievers cannot harm the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). Allah will bless those who believed in him and had feared from Allah Almighty. 
  • In verses 71 to 80, Allah said that Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) is the Prophet of Allah Almighty. Allah gave the name of few Prophets that have passed, like Hazrat Nooh (AS), Hazrat Mosa (AS), and Hazrat Aaron (AS). They were sent to different nations, but those people did not follow their orders. 
  • In verses 81 to 94, Allah draws the picture of the past Prophets and their nations. Only a few people of that nations believed in their prophets. Allah gave the punishment to the non-believers. Those Prophets trusted their Allah and remained trusted throughout life. On the Moses prayer, Allah destroyed the Egyptians, and Pharaoh and his people were drowned in the sea. Allah Almighty lifted the body of the Pharaoh from the sea to the earth so that people get the lesson from that.
  • In verses 95 to 109, Allah Almighty turns his face back to the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) and the people of Makkah. Allah said that no miracle would be made to the non-believers. People do not believe in the Holy Prophet because Allah did not allow them to do so. Allah advised the Holy Prophet to have patience and trust in Allah Almighty. 

Benefits of Surah Yunus

The importance of Surah Yunus is given under the narration of Imam Jafar as Sadiq (AS). He narrates that the person who recites Surah Yunus one in two or three months will be placed along Muqabreen (the close ones) on the Day of Judgement.

It is also said that if a person recites Surah Yunus, his reward will be equal to the number of persons were present in the nation of Hazrat Yunus (AS). 

Allah proves the authenticity of the Holy Quran by giving examples of the past generations. It is mentioned in the Surah Yunus that Quran is the only way to follow the right path. Allah also highlights heaven for the believers and hell for the non-believers.
