The history of this Masjid Al Aqsa is very tragic. From time to time, it came under the control of Muslims, and from then, it moved again under the control of Christians and Jews. And during the controls of Jews and Christians, this Masjid Al Aqsa was treated as a temple and a place of desecration. In 1099, under the command of King Baldwin II of Jerusalem, the crusaders installed the animals into the Mihrab and Mimbar of Masjid Al Aqsa. They later awarded the area of the mosque to the Knight Templars.

They built their headquarters into the mosque, and from there, they started their operations and crusades on the Islamic world. Then they also erected a church on the mosque's premises for themselves.

Construction

The construction of the mimbar was considered to be the most beautiful one as it was a gift from Salahuddin Ayyubi. In 1969 there was a fire in Masjid Al Aqsa that a fanatical Zionist started. It destroyed all the structures and damaged the mosque. And later, the mimbar was gifted by the Jordanian government.

Importance

The importance of Masjid Al Aqsa is tremendous. It is the Qibla Awal for the Muslims. And our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) took on the journey toward heaven. On one occasion, Abu Dharr (RA) reported that he asked our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW), “O Prophet of Allah, which Masjid was built first on earth?

Our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) replied, “The Sacred Masjid of Makkah.”

Abu Dharr (RA) again asked, “Which was next?”

Our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) said, “The Masjid al-Aqsa.”

Abu Dharr (RA) further asked, “How long was the period between the building of the two Masajid?”

Our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) said, “Forty years. Apart from these, offer your prayers anywhere when it is time to pray, although excellence is in praying in these Masajid.”
