Zamzam Well Facts, Virtues, And Complete History
A well that has been providing water for over 4000 years located in the Mataf area near the Khana e Kabba is ZamZam. Here are some of Zamzam Well’s Facts, Virtues, and Complete History that will allow you to understand better what ZamZam is and its benefits. According to our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW), "The best water on the face of the earth is the water of Zamzam; it is a kind of food and a healing from sickness." This well is located in the Holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia, right next to Khana e Kabba, the most prestigious mosque for Muslims. The overall distance of the well is around thirty-eight cubits from the Holy Khana e Kabba.
Zamzam was the one who quenched the thirst of Hazrat Ismaa'eel (AS), the son of Hazrat Ibraaheem (AS). His mother, Hazrat Haajra (AS), ran between the mountains of Safa and Marwah in search of water but wasn't able to find any. At the same time, she was praying to the Almighty to help and rescue his child in his thirst. At the same time, Allah ordered the earth, and the water started pouring out of the earth near the feet of little Hazrat Ismaa'eel (AS).

Our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) says, "The most sublime of all earthly waters is that of Zamzam; therein, one finds food for the hungry and medicine for the ill."
Facts
The well of Zamzam is 21 meters far from the Kaabah, towards the side of the Maqam e Ibrahim. The place where the well is known as the Mataf area. The combined depth of the Zamzam well is 31 meters. The water comes out from two springs with the help of electric pumps. The first spring of the well is in the direction of Kaabah, and the other spring is in the direction of Mount Abu Qubais. The combined power of pumps to extract water per second is 11 liters, which is the minimum amount, and the maximum amount is 18.5 liters of water per second. The amount of water in liters extracted on a normal day is around 150,000 liters per day.
On the other hand, during Hajj and Ramadan, the amount of water being extracted from the well of Zamzam is 400,000 liters per day. Our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) said, "Zamzam water is what one intends to drink it for. When one drinks it to be healed, Allah heals him; when one drinks it to be full, Allah makes him full; and when one drinks it to quench his thirst, Allah quenches it."
Chemical Composition of Zamzam Water
Zamzam is not ordinary water. This water contains a perfect balance of chemical composition that is perfect for human consumption. Our Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) said, " The Zamzam water is for whatever it is drunk for." The chemicals that are being found in Zamzam water include:
- It stops the growth of bacteria due to the abundance of fluoride in it
- Positive ions such as sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium
- Hydrogen and alkali are as much as 7.5-8 mg per liter, which is odorless
- Negative ions such as bicarbonate, sulfur, nitrate, phosphate, and ammonia
- Calcium and magnesium salts of 2000 mg per liter
- Neutron elements whose benefits can generate energy
