Does Fajr Start At Dawn

Does Fajr Start At Dawn? The simple answer to the question is a yes. But when you go deep into the question, you should know that there are two dawns. The first is the false dawn, and the other is the true dawn. The false dawn is known as Al-Fajr Al-Kadhib, and the truth is known as Al-Fajr Al-Sadiq.

Does Fajr Start At Dawn is a yes, but one should keep in mind that anyone can eat and drink at the false dawn, Al-Fajr Al-Kadhib, and within this time, no one is refraining from drinking or eating who is planning to observe a fast.

On the other hand, when the time for true dawn comes, one should refrain from eating and drinking to observe the fast according to the said time and standards. Moreover, when it comes to offering the Fajr prayer, false dawn is not the beginning of the Fajr prayer time. Now coming onto the true dawn, this is known as Al-Fajr Al-Sadiq. It is time for Muslims to offer their Fajr prayers to witness the new day has come.

It is in the Holy Quran where Almighty Allah says, “and eat and drink until the white thread (light) of dawn appears to you distinct from the black thread (darkness of night)” [al-Baqarah 2:187]
