Muharram-ul-Haram Calendar
Muharram is the first Islamic month. Islamic calendar starts from the Muharram. It is the second most respectful and holiest month of the Islamic calendar. Muharram is one of the four scary months of the Islamic calendar.
The 10th day of the month is celebrated in memory of Hazrat Muhammad's (SAW) grandson. The tenth day of the Muharram is commonly known as the day of Ashura. This day is spent in honor and respect of Hazrat Imam Hussain. Imam Hussain was martyred with His 72 companions. Shia Muslims mourn on 10th Muharram, and Sunni Muslims fast on that day along with respect and honor.
Fasting in Muharram has its importance. The Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) said that “The best fasting after Ramzan is the Scared month of Allah (Muharram)”. The fasting on the 9th and 10th Muharram was also common in Quraish in the days of their ignorance of Islam. They fast as Allah released Hazrat Musa (AS) and his people from the Pharaoh.
The first ten days of the Muharram are spent with sorrow and simplicity. Muslims often fast on two days of the Muharram that are 9th and 10th Muharram. These two days are important in the history of Islam as well.
Importance of Ashura Day in Islam
The importance of Ashura day in Islam is as follows:
- Allah Almighty accepted the forgiveness of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) on this day.
- Hazrat Nooh's (AS) boat was saved from the horrible flood. Allah saved Hazrat Nooh (AS) and his fellows, and they landed successfully.
- Allah saved Hazrat Musa (AS) and his people from the dark period of the Firoon.
- The incidence of Karbala is the most horrible incidence of Islam that was happened on Youm-e-Ashura. Imam Hussain, with His family and other companions, was martyred in Karbala.
