برف سے اٹھتا ہوا ایک دھواں تھا پہلے
مجھ سے آباد ہوئی ہے تری دنیا ورنہ
اس خرابے میں کوئی اور کہاں تھا پہلے
ایک ہی دائرے میں قید ہیں ہم لوگ یہاں
اب جہاں تم ہو کوئی اور وہاں تھا پہلے
اس کو ہم جیسے کئی مل گئے مجنوں ورنہ
عشق لوگوں کے لیے کار زیاں تھا پہلے
یہ جو اب ریت نظر آتا ہے افضل گوہرؔ
اسی دریا میں کبھی آب رواں تھا پہلے
