میں یوں تو نہیں ہے کہ محبت میں نہیں تھا

البتہ کبھی اتنی مصیبت میں نہیں تھا

اسباب تو پیدا بھی ہوئے تھے مگر اب کے

اس شوخ سے ملنا مری قسمت میں نہیں تھا

طے میں نے کیا دن کا سفر جس کی ہوس میں

دیکھا تو وہی رات کی دعوت میں نہیں تھا

اک لہر تھی غائب تھی جو طوفان‌ ہوا سے

اک لفظ تھا جو خط کی عبارت میں نہیں تھا

کیفیتیں ساری تھیں فقط ہجر تک اس کے

میں سامنے آ کر کسی حالت میں نہیں تھا

کیا رنگ تھے لہرائے تھے جو راہ روی میں

کیا نور تھا جو شمع ہدایت میں نہیں تھا

لغزش ہوئی کچھ مجھ سے بھی طغیان طلب میں

کچھ وہ بھی ظفرؔ اپنی طبیعت میں نہیں تھا
