پھر یہ ہوا کہ لوگ دریچوں سے ہٹ گئے

لیکن وہ گرد تھی کہ در و بام اٹ گئے

کچھ لوگ جھانکنے لگے دیوار شہر سے

کچھ لوگ اپنے خون کے اندر سمٹ گئے

وہ پیڑ تو نہیں تھا کہ اپنی جگہ رہے

ہم شاخ تو نہیں تھے مگر پھر بھی کٹ گئے

پر ہول جنگلوں میں ہوا چیختی پھری

واپس گھروں کو کیوں نہ مسافر پلٹ گئے

اتنے تو راستے میں بھی سائے نہیں ملے

جتنے کہ لوگ آئے اور آ کر پلٹ گئے

مٹی کے ان چراغوں کی ہمت تو دیکھیے

جو جاتے جاتے شب کی صفوں کو الٹ گئے

جب ہم سے اپنی ذات کا پتھر نہ اٹھ سکا

اخترؔ ہم آئنے کے مقابل ہی ڈٹ گئے
