شام تنہائی دھواں اٹھتا برابر دیکھتے

پھر سر شب چاند ابھرنے کا بھی منظر دیکھتے

جنبش لب میں مری آواز کی تصویر ہے

کاش وہ بھی بولتے لفظوں کے پیکر دیکھتے

ساحلوں پر سیپیاں تھیں اور ہوا کا شور تھا

پانیوں میں ڈوبتے تو کوئی گوہر دیکھتے

کھڑکیوں کی اوٹ سے اندازہ ہو سکتا نہیں

شہر کا احوال تم گھر سے نکل کر دیکھتے

آنے والوں کے لیے دروازے رہتے ہیں کھلے

جانے والے بھی کبھی مڑ کر سوئے در دیکھتے

بارشوں میں بھیگنا جسموں کا اجلا بانکپن

راستوں کی گرد بھی یہ لوگ سر پر دیکھتے

وہ جنہیں دستار کی حسرت رہی ہے عمر بھر

میرے شانوں پر کبھی اخترؔ مرا سر دیکھتے
