آنکھوں کے کنول لب کے چمن زار بہت تھے
دیوانے مگر سیر سے بیزار بہت تھے
ہم لوگ کڑی دھوپ کے شیدائی تھے ورنہ
یوں سر کو چھپانے در و دیوار بہت تھے
ہر شخص کے چہرے پہ کئی چہرے تھے چسپاں
تجھ جیسے ترے شہر میں عیار بہت تھے
ٹوٹا ہوا پل ریت کی دیوار ہوا تیز
لگتا ہے کہ بستی میں گنہ گار بہت تھے
الفاظ ادا کرتی رہیں بولتی آنکھیں
چپ رہ کے بھی وہ مائل گفتار بہت تھے
آنکھوں کے دریچوں میں حیا جاگ رہی تھی
سوئے تھے کچھ ایسے کہ وہ بیدار بہت تھے
وہ شخص تو ہر گام پہ دیتا رہا دھوکے
تم پھر بھی نویدؔ اس کے پرستار بہت تھے

lagta hai ki basti mein gunahgar bahut the
alfaz ada karti rahin bolti aankhen
chup rah ke bhi wo mail-e-guftar bahut the
aankhon ke darichon mein haya jag rahi thi
soe the kuchh aise ki wo bedar bahut the
wo shaKHs to har gam pe deta raha dhoke
tum phir bhi 'nawed' us ke parastar bahut the
