Rumi Poetry

Jalal-u-Din Muhammad Rumi was the most popular Persian poet and Islamic scholar, and writer. Rumi was born on 30 September 1207. He was famous in almost every country, including Turkey, Iran, Tajikistan, and central Asian countries. His spiritual poetry was translated into different formats and languages. He is also popular as "the best selling poet" in the world. He died on 17 December 1273 in the village Wakhsh.

Rumi's main focus was on maturity theology, Sufi poetry, jurisprudence, and Hanfi. He wrote his poetry in Persian, Greek, Arabic, and Turkish. His famous Persian poem known as Masnavi is the most popular poem in the world of literature. Translation publications of all his work are available and famous in Azerbaijan, South Asia, and the US. 

After his father, Rumi was inspired by two personalities one is Attar, and the other is Sanai. Rumi started his literature work in the era of the Seljuk Sultanate. He died and was buried in Konya. After his death, his son Sultan Walad started a Sama ceremony like a Sufi dance, and it is also known as the order of Whirling Dervishes. 

Journey of life and career

After the death of his father, Rumi holds his father's position as an Islamic Molvi. His father's student Sayyed Burhan ud-Din Muhaqqiq Termazi educated Rumi about Shariah and Tariqa. After few years, Rumi became a professional Islamic scholar and started to give lectures and lessons about Islam in Konya. He started his joinery as an Islamic teacher (Molvi).

He met with Shams Tabrizi in Damascus. Meeting with Shams Tabrizi changed the whole world of Rumi. An Islamic scholar changed into an ascetic. He wrote many poems for his friendship with Shams Tabrizi, known as Diwan Shams Tabrizi. 

After the death of Shams, Salaḥ ud-Din-e Zarkub was the best companion of Rumi. After the Salaḥ ud-Din-e Zarkub, Hussam-e Chalabi was Rumi's student and best friend. Hussam-e Chalabi gave an idea to write a book. Rumi started to write and spent twelve years of his life writing the six volumes. This book is known as Masnavi to Husssam. 

Famous work

Rumi wrote spiritual poetry to heal the soul and mind. His most famous work is Matnawiye Manawi. This spiritual poem contains 27000 lines with different deep rhymes.

These Diwans contain 2000 quatrains and 35000 couplets in The Persian language. Few couplets are also in Arabic, Greek and Turkish.

Prose work

  • Fihi Ma Fihi is a kind of notes record available from seventy-one lectures of Rumi on various topics. A.J. Arberry was the first person who translated Persian poetry into English. Wheeler Thackston translated the second book of Rumi.
  • Majales-e Saba is also a famous work. In this book, there are seven different lectures on seven various occasions.
  • Makatib, in Makatib, all letters are available, those he wrote in Persian to his close friends and family members.

Death

Rumi died of illness and sickness in December 1273. Gurju Khatun, a queen of the Seljuk Sultanate, built his tomb in Konya. People all over the world visit his tomb every year. People of every religion, Christian, Jews loved him. He was buried beside his father. His tomb is known as the Green tomb.
