زرد پتوں کو درختوں سے جدا ہونا ہی تھا

ہم کہ دریا ہیں سمندر کی غذا ہونا ہی تھا

اور کب تک بے ثمر رکھتی خزاں پیڑوں کے ہاتھ

رت بدل جانا تھی یہ جنگل ہرا ہونا ہی تھا

روکنے سے کب ہوا کے نرم جھونکے رک سکے

بند دروازوں کو اک دن نیم وا ہونا ہی تھا

دھول کب تک جھونکے اک دوسرے کی آنکھ میں

ایک دن تو جھوٹ سچ کا فیصلہ ہونا ہی تھا

تیز دھاروں سے بچھڑ کر ان کناروں پر نجیبؔ

موج دریا کی طرح بے دست و پا ہونا ہی تھا
