رئیسؔ اشکوں سے دامن کو بھگو لیتے تو اچھا تھا

حضور دوست کچھ گستاخ ہو لیتے تو اچھا تھا

جدائی میں یہ شرط ضبط غم تو مار ڈالے گی

ہم ان کے سامنے کچھ دیر رو لیتے تو اچھا تھا

بہاروں سے نہیں جن کو توقع لالہ و گل کی

وہ اپنے واسطے کانٹے ہی بو لیتے تو اچھا تھا

ابھی تو نصف شب ہے انتظار صبح نو کیسا

دل بیدار ہم کچھ دیر سو لیتے تو اچھا تھا

قلمرو داد خون و اشک لکھنے سے جھجکتا ہے

قلم کو اشک و خوں ہی میں ڈبو لیتے تو اچھا تھا

فقط اک گریۂ شبنم کفایت کر نہیں سکتا

چمن والے کبھی جی بھر کے رو لیتے تو اچھا تھا

سراغ کارواں تک کھو گیا اب سوچتے یہ ہیں

کہ گرد کارواں کے ساتھ ہو لیتے تو اچھا تھا
