کسے ہے لوح وقت پر دوام سوچتے رہے
لکھے ہوئے تھے کیسے کیسے نام سوچتے رہے
رہ حیات میں رکا ہے کون کتنی دیر کو؟
مسافروں کا وقفۂ قیام سوچتے رہے
کسے خبر ہے جلوہ گاہ یار تک پہنچنے کو
سیاہ کتنے پڑتے ہیں مقام سوچتے رہے
اجڑ کے دل بسا نہیں بچھڑ کے وہ ملا نہیں
عذاب ہے کہ ہجر صبح و شام سوچتے رہے
ابھی تلک بشارتوں کی گونج ہے خیال میں
یہ کون خواب میں تھا ہم کلام سوچتے رہے
جو ملا تھا راستے میں کیا بتائیں کون تھا؟
وہ یاد آ گیا تو اس کا نام سوچتے رہے
کچھ ایسے بے خبر نہ تھے شکاریوں کی چال سے
جب آ گئے طیور زیر دام سوچتے رہے
رشیدؔ ساری عمر اسی خیال میں گزر گئی
کہ ظالموں سے لیں گے انتقام سوچتے رہے

rah-e-hayat mein ruka hai kaun kitni der ko?
musafiron ka waqfa-e-qayam sochte rahe
kise KHabar hai jalwa-gah-e-yar tak pahunchne ko
siyah kitne paDte hain maqam sochte rahe
ujaD ke dil basa nahin bichhaD ke wo mila nahin
azab hai ki hijr subh-o-sham sochte rahe
abhi talak bashaaraton ki gunj hai KHayal mein
ye kaun KHwab mein tha ham-kalam sochte rahe
jo mila tha raste mein kya bataen kaun tha?
wo yaad aa gaya to us ka nam sochte rahe
kuchh aise be-KHabar na the shikariyon ki chaal se
jab aa gae tuyur zer-e-dam sochte rahe
'rashid' sari umr isi KHayal mein guzar gai
ki zalimon se lenge intiqam sochte rahe
