کچھ دن ترا خیال تری آرزو رہی

پھر ساری عمر اپنی ہمیں جستجو رہی

کیا کیا نہ خواب جاگتی آنکھوں میں تھے مگر

اے دل کی لہر رات کہاں جانے تو رہی

جاؤ پھر ان کو جا کے سمندر میں پھینک دو

اب سچے موتیوں کی کہاں آبرو رہی

مڑ مڑ کے بار بار پکارا اسے مگر

آواز بازگشت ہی بس چار سو رہی

ہلکے سے اک سکوت کے پردے کے باوجود

اس کم سخن سے رات بڑی گفتگو رہی

منہ موڑ کے وہ ہم سے چلا تو گیا مگر

اس کو بھی عمر بھر خلش لکھنؤ رہی

والیؔ! تمہیں نواز رہا ہے وہ ہر طرح

تم کو بھی اس کی فکر ولیکن کبھو رہی
