جون 2007ء میں حامد حسن اس وقت لارڈز پر کھیلنے والے پہلے افغان کرکٹر بنے جب انہوں نے میلیبورن کرکٹ کلب کی جانب سے یورپین الیون کیخلاف 23رنز دیکر 1کھلاڑی کو آؤٹ کیا ۔ پشاور میں اپنا بچپن گزارنیوالے حامد حسن کا خاندان انکے کرکٹ کھیلنے پر خوش نہ تھا اور اس نے انہیں تعلیم دلوانے کی بہت کوشش کی لیکن حامد حسن نے مستقل مزاجی سے کرکٹ کھیلنا جاری رکھتے ہوئے اپنے خاندان کے تمام خدشات کو غلط ثابت کر دیا ۔ مارچ 2006ء جب افغانستان نے دورہ بھارت میں ایم سی سی کو شکست دی تو اسکے کپتان مائیک گیٹنگ نے انکے اندر چھپا ہوا ٹیلنٹ پہچان کر انہیں برطانیہ میں کاؤنٹی کی سیکنڈ الیون سائیڈز کی جانب سے کھیلنے کے مواقع فراہم کیے جہاں انہوں نے نیٹ پر اپنے آئیڈیل سابق برطانو ی آل راؤ نڈر اینڈیو فلنٹوف کو باؤلنگ کی ۔2009ء ورلڈ کپ کوالیفائرز میں حامد حسن نے اپنے کیریئر میں پہلی مرتبہ اننگز میں 5وکٹیں اپنے نام کیں جس نے افغانستان کو ٹورنامنٹ فیورٹ آئر لینڈ کو ہرانے میں اہم کر دار ادا کیا ۔ ان کے کرکٹ کھیلنے کے مخالف انکے خاندان نے انکی اس کارکر دگی پر بھیڑ ذبح کرکے گاؤں کے غریب لوگوں میں بانٹ کر اپنی مسرت کا اظہارکیا ۔افغانستان ایونٹ تو اپنے نام نہ کر سکا تاہم اس نے ون ڈے سٹیٹس اپنے نام کر لیا۔ 2010ء ٹی ٹونٹی ورلڈ کپ کوا لیفائر حامد حسن کی شاندار ڈیتھ باؤ لنگ اور 12وکٹوں کے باعث افغانستان نے ویسٹ انڈیز میں کھیلے گئے ٹی ٹونٹی ورلڈ کپ میں جگہ بنائی ۔
