NEW YORK: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 23rd, 2025) A 61-year-old man tragically lost his life in a rare but deadly accident involving an MRI machine at the Nassau Open MRI Center in Westbury, New York.
The incident occurred when Keith Callister entered the MRI room to assist his wife, Adrienne Callister, who had just completed a knee scan. According to reports, Adrienne requested help from her husband to get up after the scan. As Keith entered the room, the heavy metal chain around his neck was suddenly pulled by the machine’s powerful magnetic field, forcefully dragging him into the scanner.
Eyewitnesses stated that a technician present in the room attempted to intervene, but was unable to prevent the impact.
Keith suffered severe injuries and was declared dead shortly after the incident by medical staff.
MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machines are known to generate extremely strong magnetic fields, which can attract metal objects with great force. For this reason, the strict safety protocols are in place and require patients and anyone entering the room to remove all metallic items and undergo screening before approaching the machine.
The tragic event raised serious concerns about safety procedures and enforcement at MRI facilities.
