AIOU Holds Posters' Exhibition For Promoting Research-based Education

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th August, 2016) : Allama Iqbal Open University on Tuesday hold a posters' exhibition in its main campus to promote research-based educational activities in the country. The exhibition was organized by the Department of Chemistry (Faculty of Sciences) AIOU, it was participated by the students of BS and MSc Chemistry, who showed their talents and professional skills to project the community-related issues and linking their research with the society's overall well-being.

The exhibition was aimed at extending academic support in addressing the socio-economic problems of the country, said Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while inaugurating the exhibition.

Dean, Sciences, Prof. Dr. Naghmana Rashid was also present on the occasion. Reiterating his resolve to making the AIOU as a model one in the field of research, Dr. Siddiqui said that they have published eight research journals during the last one and half year, besides holding seven national and international conferences to disseminate research findings in different disciplines and to motivate young researchers to do more in their respective fields.

He underlined the need of strengthening linkage between research institutions and those who are responsible for implementation.

Research is phenomena that do not occur in isolation, it must be linked with the society. He said, he believed that the Universities should be known for their research work. The students must play pro-active role in constructing and creating knowledge, through research compatible to international standard.

Inculcating critical thinking among students is imperative for bringing them in the mainstream of education. Research should give answer to the questions, faced by policy-makers and other stake holders in the nation-building task, he added.
