Awareness Walk Against Water, Health Hazards Held

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Augst,2016) : An awareness walk was held at village Dheri Mian Ishaq in Nowshera district to create awareness among people against water and health hazards.
The walk was organized by IDEA NGO with collaboration of Provincial Disasters Management Authority (PDMA) KP and European Commission for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO). Besides others, the walk was attended by Nazim Village Dheri Mian Ishaq, Bahadar Khan, General Councilor Ghulam Akbar Khan, Youth Councilor Tanvir Khan and other members of the civil society and residents of the area in large number. Speaking on the occasion, Training Officer of Disasters Risk Reduction (DRR) Khurram Shahzad said hazard assessment study of the village has been completed and practical works would soon start. He said floods' threats from River Kabul and poor quality of drinking water were the major hazards in the area, saying in case of disasters like earthquake, floods, heavy torrential rains, people should not become panic and immediately contact PDMA, DC office and other relief organization for help and assistance.
Shahzad said in the first phase focused was being paid on community's awareness, capacity building of local communities and planning to address these issues and in final stage funds would be provided.
He said poor drinking water was major problem of the village that needed to be addressed on priority basis. Shahzad said his organization would extend full support to the village's committee headed by Nazim Bahadar Khan in setting up of water filtration plant. The participants of the walk passed through various streets by raising placards and banners inscribe with slogans of adaptation of safety measures against health and water hazards and culminated in the office of Nazim. Nazim Bahadar Khan thanked the organizers and officials of IDEA NGO, ECHO and PDMA for organizing the walk.
He said these kinds of activities are very beneficial. He expressed the hope that these organizations would help in establishment of water filtration plant in his village for provision of clean drinking water to the residents and assured full support to them.
