ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -26th Augst,2016) : The Chairman of Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in Indian held Kashmir, has said that desecration of religious places, especially Srinagar's Jamia Masjid, by Indian forces are deliberate attempts to hurt people's sentiments and demoralize them. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued on the occasion of the completion of 27th years to the infamous `Operation Jamia Masjid' said that the historic mosque was the most powerful symbol of Kashmiri resistance, earlier against Dogra rule and after 1947 against the Indian occupation, reported Kashmir Media Service. "From its pulpit, the voice for justice and fulfillment of people's political will and aspirations has always been raised, even in the harshest of circumstances.
That is why it is the most targeted by the authorities," he said.
"Twenty seven years ago, the troops desecrated Jamia Masjid to try to silence Shaheed-e-Millat Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, just like they had attempted earlier in 1965 but had failed even then.
A bold and fearless leader like the late Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq could not be cowed down by such tactics," he said. Since then, he said, the desecration of religious places had continued, including of Dargah Hazratbal, Charar-e-Sharief, Khanqah-e-Faiz Panah Tral, Dastgeer Sahab, and now even religious places of Sikhs were being desecrated. The Mirwaiz also appealed to the people to follow in letter and spirit the programme given by the resistance leaders to protest against the ongoing killing spree unleashed by Indian forces' personnel in the Kashmir Valley.
