International Youth Day (IYD) will be observed on August 12 (Sunday), in the country as elsewhere across the globe

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Aug, 2018 ) :International Youth Day (IYD) will be observed on August 12 (Sunday), in the country as elsewhere across the globe.

The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youngsters.

The theme for International Youth Day 2018 is Safe Spaces for Youth, Since the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2250 in 2015, there is growing recognition that as agents of change, young people are critical actors in conflict prevention and sustaining peace.

The current generation of youth are the largest in history and young people often comprise the majority in countries marked by armed conflict or unrest, therefore considering the needs and aspirations of youth in matters of peace and security is a demographic imperative, Private news channel reported.

International Youth Day was first set- up on 12th August 2000 by the United Nations.

Each year International Youth Day has a different theme to help draw attention to different youth issues around the world.
