KP Govt decides to close canals for annual maintenance, de-silting

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Dec, 2016 ) : The Khyber Pakthunkhwa Government has decided to close all irrigation canals for annual maintenance and de-siltation from January 10, 2017 on the request of farmers due to prolong drought in the province.

Senior Minister for Irrigation KP, Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on the request of farmers and growers have directed the senior officials of the Irrigation Department to close canals from January 10 instead of January 1, 2017 so that farmers could complete irrigation of their crops especially of wheat in the province.

This would help increase production of crops besides providing direct relief to farmers. Keeping in view of the long drought and dry weather conditions in the province, the minister passed these directives after consultation with farmers and growers. This would help make positive impact on the overall production of wheat and other seasonal crops in the province.
